system touched and having no problems. I finally opened up the system to replace a line that was crimped years ago by a mechanic trying to install a sway bar. I had the R12 removed, I replaced the line, and had the system re-charged after replacing the dryer. Got the Freon from Craigslist. Hope it's good for another 22 years. If you feel you can make it leak free, I'd stay with R12. It works well and is not that expensive on ebay or craigslist. I now have gages and found out that you can take an online test to get certified to work on R12 systems fairly easily and cheaply. I will likely do that at some point in the future. I will follow all the regulations, it seems pretty simple.
